ICSE Class 10 Board Exam 2027 – Latest Overview
The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination 2027 is conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) for eligible Class 10 students studying in CISCE-affiliated schools.
CISCE has already released the official ICSE Examination Year 2027 Regulations and Syllabuses. These documents are the most important reference for subject choices, assessment weightage, attendance, pass conditions and the exact syllabus to be studied for the 2027 examination.
ICSE 2027 Date Sheet – Current Status
As of 25 September 2026, the final subject-wise ICSE Class 10 Examination 2027 timetable has not yet been released by CISCE. Students should therefore avoid treating expected February–March dates published by third-party websites as confirmed examination dates.
Official Syllabus is Already Available
CISCE released the Regulations and Syllabuses for Examination Year 2027 well in advance. Schools are required to ensure that candidates registered for the examination have access to the current Regulations and Syllabuses.
Important Correction: Computer Applications is NOT an 80+20 Group II Subject
Some commercial Class 10 syllabus pages incorrectly place Computer Applications in an 80-mark theory + 20-mark internal structure. Under the official ICSE 2027 Regulations, Computer Applications is a Group III subject with 50% External Examination + 50% Internal Assessment. Its subject syllabus uses a 100-mark written paper and 100-mark internal assessment which are then weighted according to the Group III structure.

Do Not Use “Expected” Dates as Confirmed ICSE Dates
Third-party websites commonly estimate a February–March examination window based on previous years. Until CISCE publishes the official 2027 timetable, individual subject dates should be described only as expected or tentative.
ICSE Class 10 Eligibility & Attendance Requirements
Entry to the ICSE examination is governed by CISCE’s official Regulations. First-time candidates must be enrolled in and presented by a CISCE-affiliated school.
Minimum 75% Attendance
Candidates entering the ICSE Examination for the first time are required to have a minimum of 75% attendance of working days during each year of the two-year course, subject to the Council’s applicable shortage/condonation rules.
School Entry is Required
Candidates are entered for the examination through the CISCE-affiliated school they attend. Private first-time candidates are not permitted.
Class IX Subject Registration Matters
A candidate cannot normally choose a Class X subject that was not registered and studied in Class IX. CISCE also sets a deadline after which registered subjects cannot be changed.
ICSE Class 10 Subject Groups for Examination Year 2027
ICSE subject selection is organised into Group I, Group II and Group III. This group system is fundamental to understanding both subject choice and assessment.
Group I – Compulsory Subjects
| Group I Subject | External | Internal |
|---|---|---|
| English | 80% | 20% |
| A Second Language (one / permitted two) | 80% | 20% |
| History, Civics & Geography | 80% | 20% |
Group II – Any Two / Three Permitted Subjects
| Examples of Group II Subjects | External | Internal |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 80% | 20% |
| Science – Physics, Chemistry & Biology | 80% | 20% |
| Economics | 80% | 20% |
| Commercial Studies | 80% | 20% |
| Modern Foreign Language | 80% | 20% |
| Classical Language | 80% | 20% |

Group III – Practical / Application / Skill-Oriented Options
| Examples of Group III Subjects | External | Internal |
|---|---|---|
| Computer Applications | 50% | 50% |
| Economic Applications | 50% | 50% |
| Commercial Applications | 50% | 50% |
| Art | 50% | 50% |

| Home Science | 50% | 50% |
| Physical Education | 50% | 50% |
| Yoga | 50% | 50% |

| Mass Media & Communication | 50% | 50% |
| Hospitality Management | 50% | 50% |
| Robotics & Artificial Intelligence | 50% | 50% |
Not Every Combination is Permitted
CISCE Regulations include restrictions on certain overlapping subjects. For example, Economics and Economic Applications cannot be taken together, and Commercial Studies and Commercial Applications cannot be taken together. Students should rely on their school’s approved subject registration.
How Many Subjects Must an ICSE Class 10 Candidate Take?
The official ICSE 2027 Regulations require candidates to enter for a minimum of six subjects.
Standard Minimum Structure
Group I compulsory subjects + at least two Group II subjects + one Group III subject, subject to the detailed CISCE regulations and any permitted additional subjects.
CISCE notes that candidates will normally be expected to offer both Science and Mathematics from Group II. Other combinations are possible under the Regulations, but Heads of Schools are expected to make students aware of the implications for future study.
Candidates may also take additional permitted subjects within the official rules. The exact registered combination shown by the school is the one that matters for the 2027 examination.
ICSE Class 10 Marking Scheme – 80:20 vs 50:50
ICSE does not use one identical theory/internal split for every subject.
| Subject Group | External Examination | Internal Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Group I | 80% | 20% |
| Group II | 80% | 20% |
| Group III | 50% | 50% |
Why Raw Paper Marks Can Look Different
In Group III, a subject syllabus may specify a written paper and internal assessment each carrying 100 raw marks. For example, Computer Applications uses a 100-mark written paper plus 100 marks Internal Assessment, but the Regulations weight the subject 50% External + 50% Internal in the final assessment.
ICSE Class 10 Passing Marks & Pass Certificate Rules
The ICSE pass mark for a subject is 33%. However, qualifying the examination involves more than simply passing one chosen set of five favourite subjects.
| Requirement | Official Rule |
|---|---|
| Minimum subjects entered | At least six subjects under the prescribed Group I/II/III structure |
| Subjects in which pass standard must be attained | At least five subjects |
| English | Must be one of the passed subjects |
| Pass mark in a subject | 33% |
| SUPW & Community Service | A pass grade is required unless otherwise exempted by CISCE |
ICSE Result Grades
CISCE reports subject performance by grades in addition to marks. In the official grading description, Grades 1–7 are passing grades, while Grades 8–9 indicate failure. SUPW is reported separately using letter grades.
ICSE Class 10 English 2027 – Exam Pattern & Syllabus

ICSE 2027 Improvement / Supplementary Examination Provisions
CISCE’s 2027 Regulations include provisions for candidates who do not qualify and for candidates who later wish to appear again in permitted subjects.
Candidate Declared Not Qualified
A candidate whose result is declared Not Qualified may appear for the Improvement Examination in subject(s), up to two subjects, in which the candidate did not secure the pass mark of 33%, subject to the applicable CISCE rules.
Already Qualified Candidates
The Regulations also provide routes for qualified candidates to enter a subsequent supplementary examination in permitted subject(s), subject to the current rules and availability of the subject.
ICSE Specimen Papers, Previous-Year Papers & Board Practice
CISCE periodically releases specimen material when a paper format changes or for newly introduced subjects, while previous examination papers are also important for understanding actual Board wording and structure.
Do Not Assume Every Subject Gets a Brand-New Specimen Every Year
CISCE has previously clarified that for subjects where the question-paper format remains unchanged, an earlier format may continue. Students should therefore check the CISCE publications / specimen-paper area for their exact subject instead of assuming that the absence of a new specimen means the syllabus has not been released.
Recommended Practice Order
Complete chapter-wise preparation using ICSE Chapter Tests and Question Banks, then solve Year-wise ICSE PYQs before attempting full ICSE Sample Papers.
